Sonship Adoption as a principle in God's program for believer-saints today utilizes the Bible, the Word of God, adoption which was formulated and practiced first by Israel and later the nation of Rome during the first century BC / AD. Adoption during Rome's empire was an especially binding family adoption which proved as strong sonship adoption into the family with all privileges that the natural birth son inherited. So strong was adoption in the Greko-Roman world, that a natural born son was not fully initiated into the Greko-Roman family inheritance status until a certain age was meet; and until, most importantly, the natural boy had achieved a properly accepted level of instruction, education, preparation, tutoring, training, that the natural father would necessarily decide to initiate and formerly adopt his natural son as a fully fledged son. Once a Greko-Roman father officially adopted his son, that relationship was so strong that only a most dreadful legal court action was able to cut the adopted son from the family inheritance. But most surprising, the father was allowed to adopt a non-natural child into his inheritance. This adoption procedure would also follow the same level of instruction, education, preparation, tutoring, training, and only then would the non-natural father consider to adopt the non-natural son into his business and or inheritance. But this relationship offered a very surprising adoptive benefit; for the adopted non-natural son, by strict Greko-Roman law, was privileged with an adoption that was not able to be nullified; for the father had no legal right to cut the non-natural adopted son from the family business and or inheritance. Some young Roman men earnestly seeked adoption especially with honorable family statue or wealth or power, some earnestly seeked adoption to receive the full inheritance which they pursued to honor as a true son in a fully honorable manner for the family, no harm was intended as this adoption was to fully bring honor to the family name. The Greko-Roman adoption was absolutely unique in the ancient world; no other ancient empire had such a strict form of adoption. This was the type of adoption that was present during Christ Jesus ministry in Israel; this is the exact type of adoption that God our heavenly father instituted for Christian adoption, for the adoption of believer-saints by the adoption which is performed by our Lord Jesus Christ on our behalf, to bestow upon the believer-saint the myriad of inheritance blessings.
The adoption pattern from the Greko-Roman system is exactly what our position is in Christ Jesus as Adopted Sons of God by our Lord Jesus Christ; which is evident by the proof that God the Holy Spirit has baptizes us by the Spirit of God; not by water; but by the Spirit; which has the absolute authority inside the Word of God; directly by the words John the Baptizer regarding our Lord Jesus Christ as quoted in Luke 3:16 John answered [the Jewish leader's scouts], saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose; he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.
Christ Jesus expressly spoken by John that one day in the future that Christ would Spirit baptize believer-saints by the Holy Ghost, which is the Spirit of God; this future event is not some future reserved date in Israel's program; Christ was inclusive in His prayer reference in the Gospel of John, that Christ prays for the other sheep fold, which is believer-saints in this age of Grace, and that Christ would baptize today's believer-saints by the Spirit of God.
